7. PUBLIC HEARINGS:
     Public Input Permitted

7-A: Text Amendment 96-002; Conditional Use Permit 96-006,1715
Olympic Boulevard, M1, Consideration of a Final Mitigated
Negative Declaration (MND) in compliance with the
California Environmental Quality Act concerning the
following proposal: Application for a Text Amendment (TA
96-002) to permit a maximum height of 45 feet for a
recreational facility at a primary or secondary public or
private school, in-lieu of a maximum height of 30 feet; a
Conditional Use Permit (CUP 96-006) amending the existing
Conditional Use Permit (CUP 94-027) to add a parcel
located at 1646 Eighteenth Street to the project, permit
the demolition of an office building and a manufacturing
building, permit construction of a 26,938 square foot
recreational facility with a gymnasium and outdoor pool,
and expand the multi-purpose grass covered play field. A
previously prepared Final Mitigated Negative Declaration
was made available for public review in May of 1997.
Prior to certification of the environmental document, the
applicant initiated a redesign of the project. The
redesign process resulted in several minor changes,
including a reduction in total square footage,
reorganization of interior spaces, and a revised design of
the building elevations. As the project remained
consistent with the description provided in the Draft MND,
and the changes did not alter the type or intensity of the
proposed use, recirculation of the Draft environmental
document was not required. The Final MND to be considered
at the public hearing reflects the design changes. Copies
of the Final MND are available at the Planning Division
public counter. (Planner: Walker Wells) Applicant:
Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences.
ACTION: Initial Study Certified, Text Amendment and
