3. SELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON FOR FISCAL YEAR

Chair Pro Tem Lehrer made a motion to suspend the rules of procedure and
continue this item to next month.
Commissioner Posek seconded the motion, which carried by the following
vote:

4. REPORT
FROM STAFF:
Ms. Bar-El
informed the Commission that the revision of the Landmark Ordinance was
discussed. However, it did not make it
into the list of projects that Planning and Community Development will be able
to accomplish next year. It was
recognized as an important need and is on the list for future consideration. Staff received the NOMA update with DPR
sheets and staff is reviewing it prior to release to the public. It will be brought forward to the Commission
for formal adoption as a part of the Inventory. In regard to the photograph that was brought forth last month on
San Vicente and 7th Street, she stated that Mr. McCullen’s wife
donated the photograph to the Santa Monica Library, and the consultants found
it on the Library website. The 224
18th Street demolition should come before the Commission in September. The Historic Preservation Element comment
review period runs from today to August 7th.
There is a tentative Planning Commission meeting scheduled for September
11th. She received an
invitation from the Wilshire / Montana Coalition for a meeting that will be
held on Saturday, July 13th, and all Commissioners were invited to
attend. She passed around a Los Angeles
Times article regarding historic districts in the City of Anaheim and a draft
of the Negative Declaration for the Historic Preservation Element.

Posek made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Fresco seconded the
motion, which passed unanimously by voice vote with the following
correction: Page 4, third paragraph
should read, “Structures of Merit” and not “Landmark Structures”.

Ms. Bar-El
gave a brief explanation to the Commission on why there was a staff report
included with this item.
After further
discussion, no action was taken on items 11A(1-8).
B. Report and Discussion on the City’s Mills Act Contract Program including recent program improvements and inspections of Mills Act properties.
Ms. Bar-El
gave a presentation about the Mills Act Contract program and answered questions
from the Commission.

12. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: (Requests
from Commissioners to add items to upcoming agendas)
Chair Pro Tem Lehrer requested that discussions on the Oscar Niemeyer
house at 1911 La Mesa Drive and the Aero Theatre at 1318 Montana Avenue be
added to the agenda for discussion.
Barry Rosenbaum asked that the discussion of the Rules be delayed until
September 9th.
