Colorado Avenue Streetscape Design Study

Release Date: October 27, 2009
Due Date: Monday, November 9, by 5:00 p.m.

 The City of Santa Monica invites you to submit your qualifications to assist the City in developing: streetscape designs for a Pedestrian Esplanade from the future Downtown Expo LRT Station to the Santa Monica Pier; a pedestrian plaza at the station; and streetscape character criteria for the Colorado Avenue corridor between the Midtown (at 17th Street) and Downtown LRT Stations.

Freeway Capping, Bridging and Decking Projects

Release Date: October 2, 2009
Due Date: Friday, October 30, 2009 AT 10:00 AM

The City is seeking qualified consultants with experience working with CalTrans to provide professional services for a three-part project to cover a portion of the I-10, Santa Monica Freeway in Santa Monica’s Downtown and Civic Center.  The project includes: 

1)    A Feasibility Study for capping a stretch of Interstate 10 Freeway from Ocean Avenue to 4th Street

2)    McClure Tunnel Extension Concept Design

3)    Fujinomiya Douri Extension Concept Design

Solar Energy Installation Ordinance

City Council Adopts new standards for Solar Energy Installations:

On July 14, 2009, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2291 (CCS) amending the Zoning Ordinance to adjust standards and establish non-discretionary approval of solar energy systems in order to encourage solar power.  The ordinance is available here, and guidelines are also available.


Ocean Park Boulevard "Green Streets" Project Underway!

The Ocean Park Boulevard "Green Streets" project was initiated in March 2008 at the request of the Santa Monica community.  The project aims to examine the portion of Ocean Park Boulevard west of Lincoln Blvd. to Neilson way, and to develop solutions to issues based on scale, character, health and safety, and circulation.  Check out the project's webpages Here.

On November 11, 2008, the City Council adopted the 2008-2014 General Plan Housing Element.  The 2008-2014 Housing Element substantially complies with the requirements of Article 10.6 of the California State Government Code and demonstrates that Santa Monica is committed to building housing for all segments of the community and will contribute its fair share of new housing in California.  The document has been submitted to the California State Department of Housing & Community Development and is pending State certification.
