Grab a drum or bring your own and get into the groove with our rhythmic festival kick-off. Drums, shakers, tambourines and other percussion instruments provided by Remo Drums. No experience necessary!

BUCOVINA KLEZMER

Formed in the early 90’s by Miamon Miller, Bucovina Klezmer specializes in performing music for the simchas or joyous occasions that are part and parcel of Jewish cultural and religious life. Bucovina reaches beyond the traditional Eastern European repertoire, incorporating jazz and even Latin melodies into their music.

VIVER BRASIL

Under the direction of Luiz Badaró and Linda Yudin, Viver Brasil Dance Company fuses passionate Afro-Brazilian dance with stunning costumes, and exuberant percussion and vocals. The dances are inspired by the Candomblé orixasand the Bahian carnival dances of samba reggae. Viver Brasil is a recipient of a National Dance Project Grant for their upcoming national tour.

QUETZAL

“Revolution hasn't been this much fun since the ‘60s.” (LA Times) This groundbreaking East LA band plays “ jarochohip,” an original blend of Mexican Folklorico, Cuban beats, Caribbean tunes and American rock. Quetzal’s melding of infectious rhythms and irresistible spirit delivers the new sound of Chicano music.

MC RAI

Taking his name from the indigenous form of North African folk music, MC Rai and his band blend age-old melodies and rhythms with rock guitar and hip hop beats. Together with a seven-piece ensemble, the group produces a magnificent blend of traditional and postmodern musical vibes.

Santa Monica High School Theatre delights you with selections from their upcoming musical showcase: Showstoppers; A Musical Revue.The theatre is guided by its partnership with the Santa Monica Civic Light Opera (SMCLO), which provides mentoring by alumni and theatre professionals.
