THE GREAT SHAKE-OUT
At 10:15 AM 10/15/09 The
City Experienced a “Simulated” 7.5 Earthquake on the
Puente Hills Fault. While damage assessment is still
in progress, significant damage to our local
infrastructure appears to have occurred.
As part of our local area
response we are requesting that all SMOAID Members
provide a quick update on their operations status.
Please send a 1-2 paragraph update (which should
include facility status, injuries or deaths and
whether your operation is still functional) to the
following e-mail address to allow us to post them to
our SMOIAD website.
Send e-mail to:

Broadcore did experience
significant effects of the quake. Des scattered
throughout the company facility and we are currently
on emergency power. Since we utilize cloud based
communications platform, we had no interruption of
phones service and are able to make and receive
calls out of the area immediately effected. It
seems the local phone company is not able to provide
dialtone to the rest of the businesses in our
building. All personnel are accounted for.

Here’s the City of Malibu Update:
Malibu experienced approximately two minutes of
intense shaking beginning at 10:15am. Five staff
members were seriously injured by glass shards and
other flying debris. Two other staff members have
died. The city’s facilities appear to have sustained
only minor damage at this time.
We have successfully sustained radio communication
with the cities of Lancaster, Calabasas, and Hidden
Hills. They experienced minor damage. We have also
been attempting to gauge damage the 27 miles of
Malibu coastline. Serious rock slides have rendered
Pacific Coast Highway impassable just west of
Topanga Canyon Boulevard. This obstruction may
hamper shared aid between Malibu and Santa Monica.
Sincerely,
Eric Strunz

Fortunately at Yahoo! Inc,
all employees are accounted for and relatively doing
fine. No injuries to report. Our buildings vibrated
quite significantly from the jolt; however there
does not appear to be any structural damage. Our
building engineers and security teams are continuing
to assess our buildings at this time.
Our communications and
internet networks are functioning properly at this
time and we are able to commute with the outside.
We will continue to provide
updates as more information becomes available.
Thanks

The headquarters of the RAND Corporation
participated in the drill. We suffered no deaths,
or injuries and facility is functioning. ERT members
enforced DROP COVER and Hold-ON and staff were very
cooperative.
